Absolutely, especially in today's market, due to the continued and significant fluctuation in global precious metal markets, the cost of gold and silver has increased again considerably in recent weeks.
Stainless steel jewellery isn’t a “cheap alternative” — it’s a deliberate, modern choice.
It’s chosen for its strength, longevity, and resistance to tarnishing. It doesn’t fade with everyday wear, it doesn’t demand constant polishing, and it holds its finish beautifully over time.
More and more premium designers use stainless steel because it fits real life: durable, hypoallergenic, and designed to be worn every day — not kept in a box.
Quality isn’t about the price tag.
It’s about how something lasts, how it feels, and what it means to you.
Stainless steel is confidence.
Not compromise.
Why does silver tarnish but stainless steel doesn’t?
Silver reacts with sulphur in the air, which causes it to darken over time. This is called tarnish and it means regular polishing is needed. Stainless steel is different. It contains chromium, which creates an invisible protective layer that seals the surface and prevents discolouration.
No tarnish
No polishing
Made for everyday wear
So if you want something for minimal maintenance then stainless steel is an excellent option.
Why I love stainless steel
Stainless steel is hypoallergenic, which means it’s kind to sensitive skin and very unlikely to cause irritation. Even if you are allergic to silver or other metals, the chances are you can still wear stainless steel -- Every single day.
Unlike some metals, stainless steel doesn’t react with sweat or moisture. It has a protective surface layer that stops the metal breaking down and releasing high doses of nickel that often irritates the skin.
That’s why the high-grade 316L stainless steel that is used for my memorial pieces is trusted for medical use and body jewellery, and why it’s such a good choice for jewellery meant to be worn close to the heart, every day. Strong, skin-safe, and made to last — just like the memories it holds.
Stainless steel jewellery is often thought of as a “men’s” choice — but in reality, it’s simply a beautiful, versatile material that suits everyone.
While I do carry a large range of men's and unisex stainless steel jewellery, I also do many elegant designs aimed at women who prefer something a bit more delicate.
It’s a common misconception that stainless steel memorial jewellery is made from the same steel used in construction — but they are very different materials, designed for very different purposes.
The memorial range is crafted from high-grade 316L stainless steel chosen specifically for jewellery. It’s carefully refined to be smooth, non-porous, and comfortable, with a gentle sheen rather than an industrial finish.
Names, dates, fingerprints, and words of love deserve to be clear — now and always.
When you have a memorial piece that is engraved it is not just adding text or a fingerprint — it is preserving something deeply personal. A name that was spoken with love. A date that changed everything. A fingerprint that once held your hand.
Stainless steel allows engraving with exceptional clarity and depth. The surface is strong enough to hold fine detail, meaning every line remains sharp, readable, and true — not just now, but years from now.
The engraving won’t blur, wear thin, or fade with everyday life. The details stay exactly as they were intended, quietly and faithfully.
Because when something matters this much, it deserves to be made to last.
Why we love stainless steel for memorial jewellery
Here is a little more about why stainless steel plays such an important role in memorial jewellery.
Not because it’s trendy.
Not because it’s the cheapest option.
But because it’s right for something so meaningful.
Stainless steel is:
• Strong and durable — made to last a lifetime
• Kind to skin — even sensitive skin
• Tarnish-free — it doesn’t fade with time
• Perfect for engraving — names and messages stay clear
• Practical for real life — suitable for everyday wear
• Accessible — beautiful and affordable
• Modern — timeless in meaning, contemporary in design
Memorial jewellery isn’t just jewellery.
It’s comfort. Connection. Remembrance.
And the materials it’s made from should honour that — quietly, reliably, and for the long term.
Here is just a small selection of the stainless steel designs I am able to offer, please feel free to get in touch for more information.
